Item #SKB-17823
Softbound (no cloth issued), special variant silk-screen binding. The catalog for the major Warhol retrospective organized by curator John Coplans at the Pasadena Art Museum. This variant was created when the exhibition arrived at the van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, where the museum received unbound printed sheets rather than finished copies. The museum created their own binding utilizing silk-screened covers on thicker, uncoated paper. The front and back covers feature close-ups of Warhol's face. On the front in greenish/yellow with violet tones is Warhol wearing sunglasses, on the back is a different image in violet and black showing Warhol without glasses. "Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven" is printed at the top of the rear cover. Included is a booklet with the 16-page Dutch translation, a rare mimeo sheet about the exhibition, and an original ticket stub for admission. This more colorful and attractive variant differs from the standard edition that features a b&w portrait of Warhol on the cover of regular glossy stock. Slight toning, very near fine. Scarce.
