Flyer announcing an appearance by magician Neff at the Cafe Bizarre in Greenwich Village.
NY: Cafe Bizarre, ca. 1959.
Item #SKB-17765
The flyer states: "Neff Gives You the Creeps...Vampire Bats...Cabaret de la Mort...Graves Beyond the Galaxy...The Ultimate in the Unknown." Features an illustration of a person wearing a cape and top hat and carrying a cane as a bat flies around him. The Cafe Bizarre was one of the most popular and sensational clubs to capitalize on the beatnik phenomenon, presenting poetry readings, folk and rock music, and "assorted madness" for tourists and genuine bohemians and artists alike. Musitron Records recorded an album there that captured the bongo-beating, finger-snapping beatnik spirit of this venue. In the '60s Andy Warhol first discovered the Velvet Underground playing there billed as "The Velvets." Fine. Rare item from this beatnick venue in the Village (only time we've seen this). Fine (the word "monday" discretely written at bottom). Measures ca. 7.75" x 2.5"
Price: $75.00
