SF: San Francisco Art Institute, 1987.
Square 4to. First edition. Exhibition packet for the landmark "Cure of Souls" exhibition of LSD blotter art at the San Francisco Art Institute. Curated by Mark McCloud, the foremost collector and scholar on the subject. Consists of a psychedelic, elaborate three-panel interlocking gatefold cover silk-screened in day-glo, black-light-reactive colors with a die-cut window on the front with a gold embossed Eye of Horus detail. Inside are four sheets of pastel paper printing an introduction by Mark Van Proyen and the essay "A Culture in Disguise" by Carlo McCormick. Also included are two large double-sided silk-screen prints of LSD blotter designs. Copies of the packet that weren't sold at the SF venue were used months later for the "Cure of Souls" exhibition at the Psychedelic Solution Gallery in NYC where they added either four 10-inch sheets of blotter designs cut from the poster for the show, or they included a set of 9 postcards printing images of blotter designs. Included here is a complete set of the 9 postcards of blotter designs from the Psychedelic Solution show. Barely perceptible handling impressions to two corners, else fine (12" x 12"). Rare. OCLC locates only one copy at the British Library.
