NY: Transition Press, 1937.
Edited by Eugene Jolas. Important avant-garde periodical with contributions by Man Ray, Hans Arp, Paul Eluard, James Joyce, Franz Kafka, and James Agee, among many others. Art by by Leger, Miro, Kandinsky, Moholy-Nagy, et al. Cover illustration by Marcel Duchamp, reproducing the Readymade, "Comb." Printed in white on the edge of the comb is: "3 ou 4 gouttes de hauteur n'ont rien a faire avec la sauvagerie" (3 or 4 drops of height have nothing to do with savagery). One of Duchamp's most famous cover designs. Light scattered foxing to top of text block, inevitable minor wear to the edges of the covers that overlap the text block (much less than usual), minute tear to base of spine, but overall a lovely, fresh copy. This issue is notoriously prone to wear and this copy, despite its minor blemishes, is especially nice because the Duchamp cover presents so beautifully.
