NY: AREA, 1986.

Item #SKB-17655

The front of the card features text, and the back shows a naked child in a cowboy hat dancing with a guitar on the floor behind him. Printed in purple on white stock. Included is a cellophane-wrapped bubble gum cigar stating "It's a Boy." A charming invitation from this popular club and art installation space that created various themed events that "brought together the disparate worlds of artists, fashion designers, socialites, film stars, writers, musicians, and celebrities." Upon its opening in 1983 AREA immediately became the nexus of the Downtown art and club scene of the '80s. Basquiat was a friend of the Goodes who owned the club and was a regular there sometimes taking on the role of DJ. A few strong creases to the card, cigar fine (the card measures 5.5" x 8"). The original slightly worn mailing envelope is present.
