Peoria, IL: Publishers Moderna, n.d. [ca 1959].
Small pamphlet. First edition under this title. "The Official Handbook for Everyone in Orbit." A glossary of beatnik lingo illustrated with drawings. Interestingly, and inexplicably, the entire contents of this book (save for the title page) are exactly the same as "Swinging Syllables" a beatnik dictionary published in 1959 by Kimbrough Publishing in Memphis. Judging from a contemporary magazine ad both books were available simultaneously, though we don't know if one preceded. The ad says that this book, and "Swinging Syllables," are available from Kimbrough Publishing who were either acting as distributor for both books, or Publishers Moderna and Kimbrough were possibly connected. INCLUDED with this copy is the vintage magazine ad that we refer to. Some edge wear to fore-edge, short tear to base of spine, owner's name, staples oxidized, so a good only copy. In our experience, this "Beatnik Dictionary" version is scarcer than "Swinging Syllables." This is the only copy we've ever seen and no copies appear on OCLC.
