England: The British Journal of Addiction, 1957.
8vo. Offprint of Burroughs' first periodical appearance, and his first appearance under his own name, in the January 1957 issue of The British Journal of Addiction. First separate printing of this long statement by Burroughs on his experiments with various drugs and different types of addiction cures. Limited to 50 copies. This copy belonged to Terence McKenna, one of the foremost authors on psychedelic drug experience, especially psychoactive mushrooms, whose works include The Invisible Landscape, Food of the Gods, and True Hallucinations. McKenna and his wife, Kat bought this ca. 1986 at an auction of material from William Burroughs' personal archive that consisted of original file folders marked in Burroughs' hand filled with items from his archive---among them was this copy. Thus a terrific double association---Burroughs' own copy, then McKenna's. Accompanied by a letter from Michael Horowitz, noted drug literature scholar, author, and Timothy Leary's bibliographer, who attests to the aforementioned provenance. One of Burroughs' rarest, and earliest, items---this copy being particularly desirable. Minute spot to top of front cover, slight rust to staples, else near fine.
