[Philadelphia]: Synapse Press, .
Small 4to. First edition. Unbound folded sheets with purple/pink covers and interior pages printed in black, white, and shades of grey. Partially uncut and untrimmed this is the publisher's file copy of the book with a signed pencilled note by the publisher to the first page noting that "This is my publisher's proof copy" (though at the risk of being redundant, this is an untrimmed copy of the actual book, not a proof). This book reproduces an original artists' book created by Woodman while studying in Rome. Using a selection of pages from an antique Italian geometry book, Woodman affixed 16 photographs on the deteriorating pages and added handwritten pencil notes, glue stains, and blobs of white correction fluid over ink and arcane mathematical formulas. This is the only book published during Woodman's lifetime, published just days before her untimely suicide at the age of 22 in 1981. Of the 500 copies printed 450 copies were sent to Woodman's family who distributed them as a tribute at her funeral. Widely considered a landmark, hugely influential work of experimental photography. Interest in Woodman's work has only increased over the years, and she has been the subject of several books and many exhibitions. A few minute, faint, sepia spots to front cover, short tear to first page, else near fine. A unique copy of an important book.
