Paris: Le Petit Journal, 1903.
Fabulous opium den print that takes up the entire back cover of the French newspaper Le Petit Journal (the complete issue is included). One of the best of the woodblock opium den prints that appeared in various newspapers around the turn of the century. This one has two very notable distinctions: it's printed in several colors, and it portrays upper class smokers in a nicely appointed den. Very minor wear for a newspaper of this vintage, paper still supple, a bit of foxing to bottom of the print, very nice overall (approx. 17" x 11.75). One of only two color opium den woodblock prints that portray upper class smokers that we've encountered. Scarce.
