Rome: Galleria Diacono, 1982.
8vo. Single sheet of tan, wove card stock printed in red letterpress, folded to make four pages. The very first catalog, and the first monograph, published on the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, featuring an extensive text by Mario Diacono. The exhibition displayed a single major work, "Il campo vicino l'altra strada" ("The Field Next to the Other Road"). Mario Diacono states that this painting has at times been mistakenly referred to as having been painted in Modena in 1981, and exhibited that year at the Galleria Emilio Mazzoli in Modena as part of the SAMO exhibition. The work was indeed painted in Modena, but in 1982, for another exhibition at the Galleria Mazzoli that never took place. An agreement with Basquiat's primary dealer at the time, Annina Nosei, allowed Diacono to exhibit the painting at his gallery in Rome in 1982. As new. Basquiat's first catalog is one of the rarest (and earliest) printed items relating to him. (Italian text.).
