Paris: Andre Balland, 1971.
Oblong 8vo. Softbound (only issued softbound). First edition. A photographic ode to free love among a group of hippies. Lovely, atmospheric photos by John Ray showing hippies smoking pot, dancing, and then participating in an orgy. The accent is on sensual embraces and intertwined naked hippie bodies, with erotic poems by Bernard interspersed throughout. Nice design and layout with some shots enhanced with tasteful psychedelic embellishments. A little-known classic of the Love Generation, arguably the best non-exploitational photo study of hippie sexuality and very much evocative of the period. This is a presentation copy inscribed by the photographer to noted art critic, writer, and photographer Pierre Descargues with his discrete bookplate to inside front cover. Rare. This is the second copy we've seen in 30 years of specializing in counterculture and OCLC turns up only two copies worldwide (the only US copy is at Harvard). Near fine. (French text.).
