London: Poster Dress, ca. 1968.
A paper (actually rayon and nylon) "poster dress" featuring a b&w photo of a hand in a meditative position and printing Ginsberg's poem "Uptown N.Y." Created by British designer Harry Gordon, the dress is enclosed in a plastic bag with cardboard header and a photo-illustrated advertising enclosure showing the other styles of poster dresses available. A sixties zeitgeist item issued during the brief period when paper dresses were fashionable, and one of the scarcest and most unusual Ginsberg items. A lovely example with the bag and header still sealed and not split along the seams.
