LA: J. P. Tarcher, 1983.
Hardbound in dust jacket. First edition. Superb presentation copy inscribed as a birthday gift to longtime friend, Allen Ginsberg: "To Allen, a birthday present with love & gratitude Timothy Leary." On the same page as the inscription Ginsberg has written: "Allen Ginsberg skimmed thru w/notes June 5, 1983," and at the bottom of the page "at Elaine's restaurant some notes AG" (the last two words are smudged). Ginsberg has made those notes in the margin of several pages. Ginsberg, an early marijuana activist and drug experimenter, was among the first people Leary asked to participate in his famous psilocybin experiments at Harvard in the early sixties. He presided over the Human Be-In with Leary during the Summer of Love, fought for Leary's release when he was imprisoned during the '70s, and they remained close friends throughout their lives. A phenomenal association copy linking these two counterculture icons whose influence pervaded both underground and popular culture during the '60s and beyond. One of the best counterculture association copies to appear on the market. About fine (some clear splatter marks to bottom edge of text block) in like dust jacket with a crease to the flaps.
